...of never missing a flight. Our flight from London to Madrid was delayed 1 1/2 hours due to fog in Madrid, but our flight from Madrid was not delayed, so we ended up missing it.
There were three of us from UNI travelling together, and we all had to pick up our boarding passes from Iberia for the last leg to Oviedo. Upon arriving to the Madrid airport, it took us a while to find an Iberia customer service that could possibly help us. As the clock ticked down to when our flight from Madrid was supposed to leave, we were stuck in a line that was not moving. At all.
Thus, we decided it would be a good idea to at least try to get to our gate without a boarding pass since waiting in line wasn't getting us anywhere. We went through customs, which was super easy, but they stopped us at security because we didn't have boarding passes. They sent us to another customer service desk, which at least had a shorter line. Once we finally reached the desk, they were able to send our luggage to baggage claim and said after we got our luggage we had to go to an Iberian ticket office to get new tickets. We waited an hour to get all of our luggage and then got in another line at an Iberia desk in the departure area. By this time it was 7:00 and the last flight to Oviedo was at 8:00. Luckily one of the other girls went to an Iberian check-in counter and asked if they could please help us so we could make the last flight. Thankfully, we were able to get tickets for the flight, went through security, and arrived at our gate 5 minutes before boarding.
Unfortunately, that was not the end of our adventure. Upon arriving the Asturias airport we needed to take either a bus or a taxi to Oviedo. We decided to try the bus since we asked someone and they told us where it would come and that it would be there next at 10. We waited there until 10:15 before taking a closer look at the schedule I printed out and realized that 10 was the only time it did not come on the hour, so it would not be there until 11:00. So, since it was getting a little chilly (although it was much nicer than Iowa weather) we decided to just take a taxi, thus finally reaching our hotel safely. :)
All the other flights were fine and everything before Madrid went smoothly. I even slept through the take-off from London. :)
Ooph. Luckily it worked out, and luckily you weren't travelling alone. That always makes every bump that much more annoying. Bus schedules are your friend!
ReplyDeleteWow, what an adventure so far. Loved the pictures of you and your friends posted today on facebook! Enjoying high 40's and 50's soon here in Iowa....like Spain??
